Excursion to Porvoo, including two plenaries

The Wednesday plenaries will be arranged at the Art Factory in Porvoo, Finland's second oldest town with around 50 000 inhabitants. Lunch will also be served at the Art Factory.
There will be bus transportation from the Senate Square (Unioninkatu 34), Helsinki at 9.00. It will take about 50 minutes to arrive in Porvoo by bus. The bus will also take you back to Senate Square at around 17:00 in the afternoon. (Schedule to be confirmed)
There is a lot to see in Old Porvoo with its cobbled streets, small galleries and the river lined with old wooden warehouses. Porvoo is a town where narrow lanes and the ambience of days gone by meets the spirit of modern design.
As optional programme there will be a guided walking tour in Old Porvoo during which you will hear about the history of Porvoo, the medieval Cathedral and the 18 th century buildings. We will also get acquainted with interesting people that have lived in Porvoo and visited the town during decades. The walking tour will take approximately 90 minutes. The cost for the guided tour will be EUR 5/person.
If you don’t wish to participate in the guided walking tour you will be able to visit Old Porvoo on your own without extra cost.
If you want to experience the beautiful archipelago, you will be able to return to Helsinki by steamship m/s JL Runeberg. The cruise will take approximately 3,5 hours, leaving Porvoo at 16:00 and arriving at Restaurant Saaristo for the Conference dinner at approximately 19:30. However, if you will not join the Conference dinner, you will be transported to Helsinki market square. The cruise will cost EUR 29.

Ice breaking party
Venue: National Museum of Finland, Mannerheimintie 34, Helsinki

The Ice breaking party at the National Museum of Finland will open the ICNAA 2017 conference. The National Museum building was designed by the Finnish architects Herman Gesellius, Armas Lindgren and Eliel Saarinen. The museum was opened to public in 1916. The National Museum illustrates Finnish history from medieval times to the 19 th century. You will have a chance to visit the Museum’s exhibitions during the Ice breaking party.
Helsinki City Reception
Venue: Helsinki City Hall, Pohjoisesplanadi 11–13
Date: Monday, 26 June 2017
Price: included in the conference registration fee
The City of Helsinki invites the participants ICNAA 2017 to the Helsinki City Hall on Monday 26 June at 19.00-20.30.
The City Hall is located next to the Market Square (Pohjoisesplanadi 11-13). Designed by the famous architect Carl Ludvig Engel (1833), and remodelled by architect Aarno Ruusuvuori during the 1960s, the City Hall is the central administrative building of the City of Helsinki.
Please remember to indicate your participation to the Helsinki City Reception on the registration form even though it is included in the conference fee. Please note that it might not be possible to register to the City Reception on-site.
Venue: Restaurant Saaristo

The Conference dinner will be served at Restaurant Saaristo on the Klippan island. Restaurant Saaristo’s historical milieu as well as central and beautiful location by the sea offers a unique setting for the Dinner. At Saaristo history is to be found on all surroundings. You can see the Empire-Helsinki skyline in the north, the walls and bastions of the Suomenlinna fortress in the south and the crafty Art Nouveau style wood cuts in the historical dining room. Saaristo’s white Art Nouveau style villa, built in 1898, is one of Helsinki’s most traditional restaurants.

How to get there: restaurant Saaristo is located on Island Klippan, on the south side of Olympia-terminal. A boat serves from pier located near the Olympia-terminal, next to the Peace Statue (Ehrenströmintie 14). Cruise from Porvoo will arrive directly to the restaurant.
Excursion to local brewery, Stadin Panimo (optional)
Venue: Stadin Panimo, local brewery in Helsinki (Kaasutehtaankatu 1)
Date: Friday, 30 June 2017
Duration: (15:30) 16:00–18:00
Optional joint travel from Porthania starting at 15:30.

The excursion will show you the facilities of Stadin Panimo and give an introduction to brewing beer. You will also be allowed to taste the ingredients as well as two beers.

Excursion to Hyytiälä (Optional)
Date: Friday, 30 June 2017 – Saturday, 1 July 2017
Duration: departure Friday at 14:00 from Senate Square (Unioninkatu 34), arrival at Helsinki Vantaa airport Saturday at 12:30
Price: EUR 100/person
